How do I download a video from Bilibili?

Is this Bilibili video downloader free?

Why Bilibili is awkward to save from

Bilibili's own download button lives inside its app and only caches videos for offline viewing there — you can't move the file, open it in another player or keep it once the upload is removed. On the website there's no download option at all.

Grabbing the stream yourself doesn't work well either. Bilibili sends the picture and the sound as two separate files, and its servers refuse requests that don't come from bilibili.com. That's why so many attempts to dl a Bilibili video end with a silent clip or an error page. This tool handles both parts for you and gives back one normal MP4.

Which Bilibili links work

Any public video link: the desktop form bilibili.com/video/BV1…, the mobile form on m.bilibili.com, and the short b23.tv links the app's Share button copies. Old-style av numbers and bare BV ids work too. When the app copies the title along with the link, paste the whole thing — the link is picked out automatically.

What won't work: paid courses and members-only videos, region-locked anime, live streams, and bilibili.tv (the international site). If Bilibili won't show a video to a signed-out visitor, we can't fetch it either, and the tool says so rather than spinning. The same goes for quality: signed-out visitors get 480p and 360p, so those are the qualities offered here — 720p and above need a logged-in account.
